Cloudflare Email Routing DNS records
Free forwarding from addresses at your domain to an inbox you already use, like Gmail. It receives mail only, and your domain's DNS must be on Cloudflare.
Where is your domain's DNS managed?
Email Routing only works when your domain's DNS is managed by Cloudflare. Send email from your domain address (Gmail + Brevo) →

Notes on each record
What Cloudflare Email Routing's documentation says about each record, in one place.
MX MX records
- Cloudflare sets the MX priorities itself.
- Delete any other MX records first. Cloudflare won't turn on Email Routing while other MX records exist (error 2008, Non-Cloudflare MX records exist).
SPF SPF record
- If you already have an SPF record (for example from a service that sends your mail), merge them into one record and keep it under 10 DNS lookups.
DMARC DMARC record
- Email Routing's records don't include DMARC, so add this one yourself in DNS > Records.
- The report address has to receive mail: create a routing rule for it, or turn on the catch-all, so reports are forwarded to you.
Common Cloudflare Email Routing mistakes
Leaving another provider's MX records
Onboarding fails with error 2008 while non-Cloudflare MX records exist. Delete them, then onboard right away so the gap without MX records stays short.
Not verifying the destination address
A routing rule that points to an unverified address stays disabled. Open Cloudflare's verification email and select Verify email address.
Adding a second SPF record
If another service also sends mail for your domain, put its include in the same SPF record instead of adding a second one, and stay under 10 DNS lookups.
